    Alchua County

    Alachua County is known for its diverse culture, local music, and artisans. Much of its economy revolves around the University of Florida, which had almost 55,000 students in the fall of 2016. It is a public university that is located on a 2,000-acre campus that brings the city of Gainesville to life. It was founded in 1853 and is considered the best university in the state by several specialized publications, including the most recent US News & World Report.

    Gainesville is the county seat and largest city of Alachua County, and is both the principal city of the Gainesville Metropolitan Statistical Area, and the largest city in North Central Florida.

    As of 2010, 86,43% of the population spoke English as their primary language, while 6,38% spoke Spanish.
