Company History

Shear Madness Haircuts for Kids opened their first salon in 1997 in Leawood, KS – part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Paula Thurman, being a mother of 2 realized that there was no special place to take her children for haircuts. So she founded one!
At our YOU-Nique salon, kids get the ride of their lives, and moms get a happy kid with a great haircut. With mounted cars for styling chairs, TVs and PlayStations, every station serves as a "fun Center" to provide positive distraction and a MAD-tastic experience for dudes and divas. From first haircut to first date our MAD-Stylin'-tists are specially trained to work with even the most daring haircut dashers. Mix in the LaDeDaSpa and the YOU-Niquey Boutiquey, and it's a fabulous formula for FUN.

Benefits of Owning a Franchise

Shear Madness Haircuts for Kids began franchising in 2011 with much attention given to developing the systems and supports necessary to run several salons at a time and run them absentee. We have a 15 year tried and true business model capitalizing on the last true niche in the salon industry. Our largest competitor only owns 70 salons nationwide. Hair care is a high demand, high repeat business that serves just about everyone with no perishable inventory, no around the clock hours, recession resistant business model. It is something most people always go to a professional for, it will most likely be done the same way in the future so the business model is sustainable. Employees are certified, educated and trained.
– We use an absentee owner model.
– Our stores can be run with a manager at the front desk.
– All POS software up in a cloud allowing remote viewing of the store's numbers.
