Miami Dade College provides free help to file taxes
Miami Dade College (MDC) is once again providing free tax assistance services to low-income, elderly, and limited-English residents of Miami-Dade County.
This as part of the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), reported ActualidadRadio.
Limited services will be provided by appointment only from February 7 to April 13, 2022 at the North, Kendall and Wolfson campuses.
The VITA program, created 29 years ago, initially began at the Wolfson Campus and was later extended to other campuses.
Participating students are trained to prepare free individual tax returns for other students, their families, and the general public, supervised by professors and expert coordinators from the Miguel B. Fernández School of Global Business, Commerce, and Transportation.
They review the returns before they are electronically filed with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
In 2019, a total of 2.619 individual tax returns were filed college-wide, generating nearly $3 million in refunds, including more than $1 million in Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC).
Overall, the program has provided Miami-Dade County residents with more than $50 million in rebates since its inception a quarter-century ago.
People interested in preparing their tax returns through the Miami Dade College VITA program must bring the following documents to the respective center: Social Security card, and those of any dependent included in the return; valid photo ID; W-2 income statement; 1099 MISC form (self-employed only).
Also form 1099 INT (interest income); model 1098T registration report; model 1095A of the medical insurance market; copy of the tax return for the previous year, and any other document that shows expenses to be deducted from taxes.
Federal tax returns must be mailed by Monday, April 15, 2022.
