Due to a complaint in a Florida store, Target withdrew a batch of dried strawberries
This Sunday the Target department store proceeded to remove Good & Gather sweetened dried strawberries from its refrigerators. This was reported by David Neal of the Miami Herald.
According to a complaint made by the Florida Department of Agriculture, these fruits contained sulfites, which is like an additive, in order to preserve them.
Upon learning that this product contained this addition, Target proceeded to withdraw the product, which did not specify that it contained it.
Sulfite can be harmful
The report presented by the Florida Department of Agriculture indicated the consequences of consuming strawberries sweetened with sulfite.
"People who have a severe allergy or sensitivity to sulfites are at risk of a severe or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products," the regulator said in its report.

Target recalled covers 4-ounce packages of Good Lot #86061 Dried Sweetened Strawberries, best by 01/09/2022; and 88514, better before 01/10/2022, 04/10/2022-07/10/2022 and 11/10/2022-14/10/2022.
Sulphites are derivatives of sulfur that are used as additives for their preservative properties.
Target made an announcement to its customers
After the seriousness of the situation, Target issued a statement, indicating what customers should do if they have an allergic reaction to the product.
“If someone with a problem with sulfites were to eat them, please return the bag to a Target store for a full refund or throw them away.
So far, the Good & Gather company has not issued a statement explaining the reasons why this product had this additive.
The department store hopes that the manufacturer of this product can rectify it, so that its product goes on sale again and thus does not generate short-term losses.
