The new headquarters will be in Dania beach, south of the airline's largest operating base at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, reported bloomberg.com.
The project is scheduled to be operational in 2022. The new offices will be located in a space of 500.000 square feet, where they will work more than 1.200 employeesSpirit said in a statement.
The airline highlighted that it will hire some 225 more employees when the new offices open.
The CEO of Spirit Airlines, ted christie, commented that the headquarters will improve the company efficiency supporting the “ever-expanding international operation”.
Currently, about 1.000 employees work in a group of office buildings located in Miramar, Florida, a development that is farthest from the airport.
Christie assured that with this new headquarters the company will save "operational costs because they will no longer pay rent for the current facilities, nor for the hotel rooms they use during the crew training period."
"Not only is this a good decision for our growth, but it alleviates some of the risk moving forward associated with retention, recruitment and future space needs," said the Spirit Airlines CEO.
The Spirit Airlines shares are down 37% this year, one of the reasons was that operating costs are higher than expected. That was the biggest drop among US airlines, whose market value is about $1 billion.
